Snow removal from roofs is an important safety consideration

Snow removal extends beyond roads and walkways to consider the structural integrity of your buildings.  The buildup of repeated snow storms plus the melting during thaw cycles can stress roofs beyond their design capability.  The most obvious threat is to the main roofs, both pitched and flat.  Consideration must also be given to smaller flat roofs such as entrance overhangs and breezeways between buildings.

Roof damage has insurance implications so Traveler’s Insurance has an interesting post on winter care of roofs.  The Boston Globe also has a interesting and relevant post.
